What does '1 OAK Modern' stand for?

‘1 OAK' stands for ‘One Of A Kind' modern furniture.

People’s biggest complaint when purchasing furniture is paying high prices for low quality. We are currently in an era where nothing is built to last. We aspire towards higher ideals and so our clients choose us. 1 Oak Modern specializes in the reinterpretation of Mid-Century Modern furniture due to their high quality make and ability to adapt to today’s modern sense of style.

All of our pieces are redesigned, repaired and recreated in house. Some people require vintage pieces in it's original state to preserve history. However, not every home is suitable for ‘original all-teak' type furniture. We cater to all styles with artistic measure. We believe that all things must evolve and transform or accept obsoletion. We choose to save these well-built items by allowing them to adapt to its new environment – your home.

How often do you come out with new items?

New pieces are listed weekly as they are completed. The quickest way to discover what is newly available is through watching Instagram Stories! If you'd like to be one step ahead, contact us for our upcoming items. You're welcome to customize vintage pieces as well as 'made to order' items!

What can I expect from your custom-built furniture?

Even the high ticket, most popular furniture brands you know are using mdf and plasticized, imitation wood products.

1 OAK Modern is an eco-conscious small business. Maintaining environment is our greatest priority.

Over 95% of our furniture is made with natural materials (minus parts like drawer slides, handles, décor, etc.). We use both solid wood and the highest grade of Northern Baltic Birch plywood which is an eco-friendly, sustainable material with natural glues. We understand solid wood has a tendency towards warping so our choice of material is marine grade ply – water resistant, weather resistant and of the highest density (free of voids). For your decorative needs, we wrap it in hand chosen, real wood veneers from our local suppliers. We’ve carefully selected the best of the best product in the world to exceed ‘big box store' quality by miles.

We mainly use matte natural finishes such as Rubio Monocoat to treat our wood products, and durable, water-based alkyd paint – strong enough for concrete flooring, and crack/temperature resistant even for fabrics.

How long will my order take?

The time frame for delivery is generally 2-4 days for vintage items (Toronto GTA and Ontario region) and 4-6 weeks for 'made to order' items. Expedited orders may be possible upon request. Time frame for receiving your custom furniture piece varies based on the complexity of the design and our current production schedule. We will keep you updated throughout the process to ensure you know when to expect your unique creation.

What is your delivery policy?

For any purchases, you will be contacted regarding delivery or pickup within 48 hours of online transaction. If you leave your phone number during time of purchase we will call you or you will be sent an email.

For Toronto/GTA residents, we are currently offering free delivery for ‘Made To Order’ items and a $50 charge for vintage items during the time of delivery.

For Ontario residents outside of the Toronto/GTA region, a standard $120 charge will apply.

For any region outside of Ontario, Canada including international, please reach out to us in advance and include your desired delivery location. Someone from our team will send you a direct quote within 48 hours.

What is your pickup policy for Toronto/GTA and Ontario Region?

Alternatively, if you’re from the area and would like to collect your item(s) free of charge, let us know your desired date and time. We will schedule a private pickup as per your convenience.

Please take proper measurements and care to ensure your piece will fit your vehicle. We recommend bringing blankets for extra safety. If you require lifting assistance, please let us know. We’re happy to help.

Our location as of April 2025 has changed to an area near The Junction North. Please message us directly for private pickup.

I require something very specific that isn’t currently available on site. Can I still contact you?

You’re welcome to inquire about any detail and style regarding your custom dream piece. While nothing is out of the realm, please keep in mind we specialize in Mid Century and modern inspired designs. Ask us anything on our contact page or DM us on Instagram/Facebook.

What is your return policy?

While we do offer warranty for newly built items, we do not accept returns for vintages at this time. Our modernized, soon-to-be antique items are historical and are often seen as works of art. Due to their age of 40 years or more, most vintages are subject to minor imperfections which add to the beauty and richness of the piece. While we do our very best to bring each item back to its ‘like new’ state, perfection is up to interpretation. We ask that you remain mindful of its history.

If you’re in the Toronto/GTA area, we do accept repairs for vintage pieces. We also offer a 3 month warranty on newly built items that require minor repair. Examples are: a loose drawer slide, loose screws, wood leg repair, etc. We may be able to do house calls for minor treatments that take 30 mins or less.

We no longer make fundamental changes for free after purchases. Example: if your child was jumping on the bed and lands face first on the corner of a nightstand (yes, this has happened), we may be able to round out corner edges and repaint at your request with a charge.
